On The BG Track. 04
author's script, providing basic frame for executing the action
technical specifications:
1). a small stage, visible from the audience level, providing space
for 2 performers, walking simultaneously on the platform, appx. 2
meters width. /10 meters lenght.
2). performers - 10 persons, wearing white shirts. there are two shirts
produced from one film, one is with a print at the front, one is with
print on the back. So there appear a 5 pears of performers, walking
in circle on the platform (exact routes for the walks follow below).
3). a Controll Unit - where camera and VJ are positioned - at one
of the ends of the platform, so camera could follow the performers
walk from the farest to the nearest point.
Video camera on a tripod, allowing panoramic shots with a soft zoom.
DVD palyer (or PC, playing AVI/Quicktime files), A/V mixer with 2
inputs -(1) from live camera; (2) from the DVD player/PC, and A/V
output to a MultiMedia Projector.
4). a projection screen appx. 3/4 m. installed above the Controll
Unit. (note: The projector to be installed on the opposite side of
the platform, higher than the heads level of the audience).
Time/Image Frame for the action:
The action starts with looped sound (1-street sequence from the DVD/AVI/Quicktime
series of clips).
The First Actor appear on the stage from the farest to the Controll
Unit side of the platform. When the first actor reached the half of
her/his way on the platform, the second actor should appear on stage
from the same point where the first started (Which is the gate for
entering and leavimng the stage for all the actors)
The Camera follow the actor from a panoramic plan (with the audience
on the background). When tyhe actor reaches the nearest to the camera
point, the camera zooms into the image, printed on the front of the
t-shirt. At this point the VJ fades the camera input with the Player
input ( start of the 1st sequence, taken from the feature film "The
Wisdom of The Crocodiles" (2nd in the order of AVI/Quicktime
files; 2nd in the order of Titles/Chapters on the DVD)).
*The important point in the transition between the two sources is
the Entry of the film excerpt, the first replika should be clear hearable/visible.
At the end of the film sequence "The Wisdom of The Crocodiles"
the VJ makes a transition to the live camera input again. By this
point the camera should be focused on the second actor, wearing a
t-shirt with print on the back of the t-shirt. At this moment the
actor should have already passed the length of the platform with a
face to the camera, and should be just turned with his back to the
cameraman. The live camera shot should start from a close-up into
the image on the back of the t-shirt and should very slowly zoom out
while the actor walks away to the far end of the platform.
At the point when the actor reaches the end of the platform, the
third actor should appear on stage(wearing a t-shirt with a print
on the front – still from “Karne Tremula” by Pedro Almodovar, subtitle
is “I have a large dick”). The camera should envelope for a moment
the two actors together. Then while the 3rd actor comes closer to
the camera – slow zoom in to the image on the t-shirt, until the whole
camera view is filled only with the image.
At this point the VJ should fade out the live camera input and fade
in the next (2nd) film sequence (excerpt from “Karne Tremula” by Pedro
Almodovar).
At the end of the film sequence the VJ makes a transition to the
live camera input again ( third live view) – Close up of the image
onto the back of the t-shirt of the 4th. actor, who by this moment
should have been appeared on stage and passed all the way to the nearest
end and just turned with his back to the camera. The camera zooms
out slowly from inside the image onto the back of the t-shirt to open
panoramic view at the end of the shot, showing the 4th actor with
his back to the camera, also the 5th actor, showing up on stage with
his face to the camera, against the audience. The camera slowly zooms
in to the fourth actor, slowly fixing the image printed on the front
of his t-shirt.
At the point when the shot is entirely inside the printed image area
– transition to the 3rd film sequence “Practical Magic”.
At the end of the film sequence – transition to live camera view
again. The camera – close up onto the image on the back of the 6th.
Actor, who by this moment should have been walked all the way from
the farthest end of the stage to the nearest point and just turned
with his back to the camera. The camera slowly zooms out until the
actor is getting farer, and when he reaches the farthest end of the
platform, the camera should show him, together with the just-appeared
7th. Actor against the audience. The camera slowly zooms in to the
6th actor, slowly fixing the image printed on the front of his t-shirt.
At the point when the shot is entirely inside the printed image area
– transition to the 4th film sequence “The Road to Wellville”.
At the end of the film sequence – transition to live camera view again.
The camera – close up onto the image on the back of the 8th. Actor,
who by this moment should have been walked all the way from the farthest
end of the stage to the nearest point and just turned with his back
to the camera. The camera slowly zooms out until the actor is getting
farer, and when he reaches the farthest end of the platform, the camera
should show him, together with the just-appeared 9th. Actor against
the audience. The camera slowly zooms in to the 9th actor, slowly
fixing the image printed on the front of his t-shirt.
At the point when the shot is entirely inside the printed image area
– transition to the 5th film sequence “Casablanca”.
At the end of the film sequence – transition to live camera view
again. The camera – close up onto the image on the back of the 10th.
Actor, who by this moment should have been walked all the way from
the farthest end of the stage to the nearest point and just turned
with his back to the camera. The camera slowly zooms out until the
actor is getting farer, and when he reaches the farthest end of the
platform.
Optional end of the performance could be here with a long panoramic
shot, showing the audience for min. or two, on the background of the
audio track of the last movie sample.
Other option is to repeate everything from the beginning and make
a second round – 10 actors – 5 excerpts from feature films – 5 live
camera sets.
